Equity

You may know this, but there is a difference between “equality” and “equity”. They sound the same, but they couldn’t be any more different. Someone, usually many someones, have tried to change the definition of equity/equality and everyone gets the short end of the stick.

Those that believe in equity believe in the same “outcomes” as if there were only one employment opportunity/outcome (ie coding). Such as all kids getting a “C” in history or all kids will graduate. All kids don’t do the same amount of work or tests at the same level.

Some miss assignments, some don’t take tests, and some don’t even want to ever attend school. Others study every day, stay after school, and do extracurricular activities to understand what in reality the lecture is about. While I talk about kids here the same things can be said about adults.

I believe in a meritocracy. The more you do, practice, discuss, and learn the better the student/adult (to me) earns a higher grade, more money, or other enhancements. I don’t believe in punishing or holding back the students/adults that went the extra mile.

Those that missed their mark.

I also believe that those that are motivated to learn but just missed the mark, deserve a second, third, chance. If they wanted to be a policeman (or jet pilot, firefighter, doctor, vet, engineer, pharmacist etc) from birth and they missed the mark on their employment test. That shouldn’t mean the end of their dream. That means that the motivated should be able to supplement their learning with special “employment brush up” classes so they can finally pass their employment tests or give up.

Restoring the dream of America should be sustained! I’m talking about classes not schools and I’m NOT talking about lowering the standards! I’m talking about more work on the students end not meaningful dollars from the taxpayer! This would require new legislation.
